My husband and I have recently signed a quitclaim deed to a business which we had purchased on land contract. The business failed, and we wanted to sign it back to the previous owner in the easiest way possible. Less than one week after signing the deed, the owner has changed the locks and will not allow us access to retrieve our personal belongings. He was told which day we would be removing our inventory, and there is no question that the items belong to us. Does he have a right to deny us access just to retrieve our personal property? If not, what should we do next? We will not be using a lawyer.
