A few weeks ago we were forced to let our babysitter go due to problems arrising from her ex-boyfriend. The girl was a victim of an abusive boyfriend and was beaten on a routine basis. The babysitter never told anyone about it although I noticed bruises on here periodically. As I stated, we let her go a few weeks ago after her ex-boyfriend visited my wife at her place of work and told her that I was having an affair with the babysitter. This of course was completely false. I have never cheated on anyone I have been with and certainly not my wife. Needless to say this has created a major problem in my marriage because it has planted a seed of doubt in my wife's mind although she says that she believes me.
In addition to visiting my wife, he has called her several times and left messages that I was messing around behind her back. He is also continuing to tell people that I am cheating on my wife with this girl.
My question is this, do I have a chance in court if I file for defamation of character or slander charges against him? What can I gain from it? This individual stalks me, has thrown nails in my driveway, punctured my tires and everytime I go to town, this guy along with his buddies harrass me by roaring their motors and burning rubber when they see me.
This has really gotten old fast. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
