I have rental property in Louisiana. On 12/10, a woman signed a Lease Agreement which specifically states that if she cancels this agreement, she forfeits the deposit. She was to bring the deposit money on 12/14, on 12/11, she brings a check for the deposit and the 1st months rent. I deposited the check on 12/12. On 12/13, she calls to say she doesn't want the apartment. I agreed to return the rent ($750) but told her I was keeping the deposit (also $750). Her argument is that she didn't sign a Lease. My argument is that she did sign the agreement to lease and even put down a deposit. Needless to say she is upset. I offered to give her 1/2 of the deposit back, but that isn't enough for her. I'm a Christian and besides the moral delimma, what do I do? What are my rights? SHould I just give her the money to make her go away? Does she have 3 days to cancel this "contract"? Hmmmm....
