View Full Version : What to do when your 17yo daughter refuses to live with either parent

My question is not quite about custody. My ex and I have joint custody of our 17yo daughter. It has been this way for 17 years. It started out every other week. A few years ago we started altering that arrangement to every other two weeks and then 9 months with liberal visitation. Nothing is working. She is a very difficult child and always has been. She is living with my husband and me right now, since June. Last night she left. Said she is moving out. In a way I am relieved. She is so mean to her siblings and will not follow any of our rules.

So, my question is, what legal obligation do I have to her since she is still under 18 and we live in Idaho. I don't think we can survive another whole year with her living her and I think her dad feels the same way. The older she has gotten the worse she has gotten. It breaks my heart but I don't know what else to do.

Any help would be much appreciated!
