A few months back I woke up to my living room/kitchen submerged in water. The water line that goes from the wall to my ice box filter on my fridge came off. Yes, the fridge is mine and yes, I installed it when I moved in. I had been living at this unit for a little over a year before this happened and there was NO foreseen issue with it. I live on the second floor and most of the water drained to the unit below me causing quite a bit of damage. Once they started to fix everything, I noticed there was a crack in the foundation between my unit and the people below me (which is how the water drained to the people below). After all the repairs were done, I sent my insurance pictures, my lease agreement, and a statement with what happened. After my insurance finished the investigation, they told me that I have no legal liability to pay the cost of damages and deemed it "Not my fault" (my insurance is not paying). Well, now the apartment complex is coming after me and telling me they are going to attach the balance for $10,000+ on my move-out statement. What should I do?
