Help in Missouri

I live in Missouri. I have been married to my wife for 28 years. We have of course had our troubles like everyone else. Our children are in college and with them all leaving our home has been very stressful. We got in an argument last night about her making the children feel bad for leaving. She then told me to get out and thinking that I had no alternative but to leave I left and spent the night in a hotel. There has never been any violence in our marriage. Iam a good provider to my wife and my family. My friend told me that I should not have left our home. That as long as there is no violence she can tell me to leave but I don't have to. She can file for divorce but I'm permitted to stay in the home until we go to court. Does anyone know if this is true? Can I go back to my home? Please help I don't want to leave my home and stay in a hotel.
