My child is 14 and has a signed work permit to work at a very popular national food company. According to Virginia Child Labor Laws, she is only to work 3 hours a day on week days and not past 7PM. The employer has her working 5-9 hours and most always until 10:30 PM or later. I have tried to talk to the manager and while he pays attention and says what I want to hear, he still schedules her for the long hours. When she was hired her manager knew she was 14 and advised her to tell everyone she was 16. This particular manager has been fired and the franchise owner has told my daughter that if I continue to contact him she will be fired. MY daughter wants to work and really needs the income but fears that further involvement will get her fired. I have been patient trying to resolve this issue but it has been told to me by the Franchise Owner that he expects her to work the hours he has assigned.
I really need advise as to how to get them to comply with the Child Labor Laws without getting her fired. Do I have a lawsuit case?
