I live with my daughter and her fiance and their two young daughters, 19 and two months. They signed a three-year lease and a monthly rental agreement in Nov. 2006. The problem is, the roof begin leaking in their older daughter's room in April 2007, we notified the landlord and he came over to look at the situation. We also told him about a leak from the bathroom into the living room ceiling at the same time. The leak in the bedroom got worse and finally, about three weeks ago, he put a new roof on after the leak caused water to come through the ceiling in the kitchen on the first floor. We then called and told him mold was growing in the daughter's room, he is planning to just repaint. Between the beginning of Nov. through the beginning of January, the furnace didn't work properly, their second daughter was born during this time period, we were forced to heat with electric space heaters, which increased our bills, he did lower the rent in December. Now, since mid-January we have become infested with mice because the people next door were evicted and renovations are underway in that side of our twin homes. We have killed eight mice so far. The landlord told us to buy poison, we cannot do this because of the children and we also have a cat. We would like to break the lease and move. Legally, do we have any options? Thank you.
