First, let me apologies if this is not the best place for this post. My company is being sold and they are offering retention bonuses to all who will stay till the end. The Vice President of the company had issued letters stating the terms of the retention bonus but has only signed her first name only. Below this so called signature is her first and last name typed, the next line her title. If you agree with the terms of this retention bonus, you are to sign and return. Is a first name a good enough signature for this type of contract? Is it enforceable if for some reason the company decides not to pay it out. This company is part of a larger company. Thanks for any advice given.

Irrespective of what contract was entered into, the first name may be good enough if the Vice-President of your company had customarily used the same as his signature.
In that case, that would be sufficient.

Given that the Vice-President of your company has been vested by the Board of Directors with the authority to enter into such an agreement, the company would be bound by such undertakings.
They cannot renege any obligation created by such endeavor.

I guess that would be all. Hope it would light up a bit.
