My husband just purchased a used Jag for me. We knew when we signed the paperwork that the check engine light was on but the dealership had it scheduled to be fixed within the week. First we were told by them that it had already been fixed and that it was waiting for us. When we took the hour drive to get it and found out that it had not been fixed we took it anyway knowing it would be just a few more days until they would get it in the shop. Well they did come and get it and a few days later we get a call from the dealership saying that they need to add another $5000.00 dollars to the car because they have to completely rebuild the motor. We have already signed all the paperwork and the car is under a 6000 mile warranty for the engine and transmission. Can they legally do that after the paperwork has already been signed? The car was a trade in and it wasn't even cleaned or anything before they gave us the keys. The night we decided we wanted the car and paid the down payment the salesman said we couldn't take it until they had everything fixed first but a few days later we get the call that it was ready but that they hadn't been able to get it in to get it fixed. I'm a little confused someone please help i'm actually carless right now AAAGH

Willingly I accept. An interesting theme, I will take part. I know, that together we can come to a right answer.

i would agree that this does not sound like the right and legal course of action has been taken. I would talk to the dealership and advise them that unless they stick to the original terms you will contact a lawyer and seek legal advice. This alone may be enough to get the issue resolved. If they do not react to this i would contact a lawyer and confirm your rights.

First of all, the Dealer never should have given you the car before it was ready.
Second, you should not have excepted it until it was ready.
Thirdly, I agree with Mischastar. Speak to the Genaral Manager directly and explain the situation. They more than likely will resolve the issue. Another avenue that has worked well for me when I had problems with the Land Rover dealer was to call the Corporate Office. You know how things roll down hill and the Corp wants you as a long term satisfied customer. Hopefully you can get this resolved at ground level, if not, call that Attorney you have a contract problem.

Good Luck!
