My husband just received a notice that his ex-wife is reopening their divorce case and charging him with contempt for not paying her alimony. Their agreement was not actually handed down by a judge. Basically, he took on all the marital debt and was also to pay her X amount of dollars/month. They were only married for 3 years with no children. He was paying her 1500.00/month and had done so for over 3 years. We got married and then it became hard for us to pay our bills due to this outrageous amount going to her. She has her PhD in psychiatry and makes well more than my husband does. We did indeed stop paying her because we felt that she had more than enough money from him. She was constantly calling and harrassing him to pay her more and more money, which I did not think was fair. She had received over 54,000 from him and he also took on other credit card debt. We would like to try to ammend the settlement. Now that she has reopened the case, can we do so?
