How does BAil bonds work?

My BFs bond is 100,000 cash an I was wondering how much I would have to put down to get him out? how do they work Do they take cars?

I've heard the standard rate for a bail bondsman is 10%, so for 100,000 you would have to put up ten thousand dollars. I would call around to different bondsmans though because you'll probably be able to get a better price. I was able to get prices as low as 3%.
