I placed an offer to buy a home in Lithia. Florida. The home is in short sale and the seller's agent stated that the bank was moving quickly. We gave the bank 2 weeks to respond, within our contract offer, and it's way past the third week with no answer from the bank. We feel that we're being tricked by the bank and seller's agent by their holding out for a better offer and not responding to our existing offer. We're on a timeline and they aren't disclosing all the facts or responding to offers. The bank actually told the sellers not to sign anything accepting the offer (pending bank approval), and the house is still being shown as "active" under the MLS. We just found out that there is at least one other offer on the home....and that the bank isn't expecting to respond to us for another 30-45 days. Are these delays legal and ethical? How can the housing market turn around with the banking beaurocracy of short sales? What options do we have because we really want this home?
