We rented a trailer in February and have found problems with the property. We have brought this to our landlords attention and he doesn't want to put any money into this property because he is going to be selling it. The problems we are having are dangerous to our health. He did not give us a contract to fill out when we moved in, he just had us fill out a credit application and give him the rent to move in. He brought over a contract for us and had us fill it out last mth. The last page of the contract is a checklist of any problems we found that were pre-exsisting. I filled it out and listed everything then turned it in to him. He felt we needed to change things on it cause it would get him in trouble for renting it to us. In turn when we rented this place the rent was 550mth and 350 deposit. He and his wife changed it to 500 in Feb. We did repairs to this place and I cleaned a duplex for him in exchange for deposit (130.00 for duplex cleaning and 263.00 for supplies in repairs on this trailer). Now he says that he will put $0 for deposit since they dropped the rent to 500 instead of the 350.00 we traded for services and repairs. He dropped the rent in Feb and now in April he decides he wants to use the 50.00 difference of rent change to reflect the deposit which means we are out the services and supplies we spent on the trailer and duplex. What are we to do...not sure how to handle this matter.
