Here is my question. My mothers grandparents who are both deceased took in an individual when he was young and reared him up. Now my mother went her way and began a life with my father. Now the man who my great grandparents took in has claimed all the land for himself and his family. As far as I know there was no will. Now I believe that the land is rightfully my mothers. As the price of land is very expensive I feel my mother should be compensated fo rthe land.

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Was the individual legally adopted by your grandparents?
Well to note:
Regardless of the presence of a will, the legitimate heirs (your mother) cannot be totally disinherited, except of course when proper causes of disinheritance is present.

To the best of my knowledge he was never legally adopted. Now the other problem is that his 2 sons have built on this land. I am wondering do they own my mother compensation for that land.

I think it can help or harm depending on the person who is owning it or just passing through.

While a good person, who values the earth and their own property will keep their land nice, I think that they will often treat any land just as nicely.

Hi Devilfish,

First check with your mother and see if he was legally adopted. You mother has the rights over the property since she is the legitimate heirs. You can consult a lawyer he would help you to find a way.

Thanks,
