Here is my question. My mothers grandparents who are both deceased took in an individual when he was young and reared him up. Now my mother went her way and began a life with my father. Now the man who my great grandparents took in has claimed all the land for himself and his family. As far as I know there was no will. Now I believe that the land is rightfully my mothers.

To the best of my knowledge he was never legally adopted. Now the other problem is that his 2 sons have built on this land. I am wondering do they own my mother compensation for that land.

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

If no will it should go to next of kin, you should be able to dispute ownership in court, and make him prove he was legally adopted, if they have lived there more than five years they can file "quiet title" or adverse possession I believe, though I am not an attorney or attempting to give out legal advice. Your mother needs to get an estate attorney and tie up the estate and go for her rights, unless, of course it was common knowledge that they wanted this guy to have it - than ethically maybe he should, check your state, laws in our state it is in the state law, how the estate is dividided if no will and if your mom is the only real legal heir than its hers, in my opinion.
