Am I owed a refund?

Does my life insurance company owe me a refund? I canceled my life insurance policy after 10 years, and have paid over $10K in premiums. A friend told me they are supposed to send me a refund from the interest, or a percentage of what I paid.

All rates and rules used by insurers are filed and approved by the Insurance Commission in each of the respective states.
