I recently flew my best friend to live with me because her former roommate had become verbally and physically abusive and then threw her out with nowhere to live. An agreement was made via email and phone about obtaining my roommates personal belongings once she arrived in West Virginia. However, the former roommate now refuses to send her personal belongings and is threatening to give them to Goodwill. They are nonreplaceable family photos, clothes, and other items. The former roommate says she wants my roommate to come back to Washington and she will not give us the stuff. She has threatened me, my daughter, and my roommate with bodily harm. I have ten messages on my home answering machine threatening, two on my cell voice mail, and many by computer. What can I do to legally obtain the personal belongings without having to go to Washington with the police? We cannot afford to make another trip. Is there some way I can legally make her put the belongings in a storage if I pay for it? What can I do about this entire problem please?
