My husband gave our son a car. My son's wife paid for the shipping of that car to their residence, and she also paid for a set of tires. Total cost, about $700. The car has a value of about $5000. My son's name is on the title, but he told his wife she could use the car so she is on his insurance now. Bottom line, there's problems in this marriage. Now his wife wants ownership of the car. She wants my son to sign the title over to her or she'll leave. She claims she has been the one to put money into it. But she's the one driving it. My son has said "No." He has no intention of ever signing it over to her. Obviously there are other issues in this marriage. This is only a symptom. But I think they are planning to split and this is definitely a catalyst. Question? If my son sticks to his guns and doesn't sign the title over to her, what are his responsibilities to her regarding the car. Don't forget, she's the one using it daily for work. He uses another car.
