payroll direct deposit mistake

I received a payroll direct deposit from my employer which I assumed was money withheld from Sept. 2007. I was unaware that in fact the money was mistakenly placed in my account. I spent the money believing it was my money. (I did not recieve a paycheck until Sept 28, 2007 although I had worked the entire month of September so I thought this was money owed to me) Five days later without notice my employer withdrew the money from my account leaving me with 5 overdraft charges at $27 each. I spent $1000 which I would not have spent if this mistake hadn't happened. What can I do now?
