OK,
I had sex with a woman about 7 years ago and she became pregnant. She was seeing another man at the time (which I had no idea) so I was shocked when she called me a year later and asked if I wanted to do a paternity test. I agreed to the test and told her to get back with me when the time was right for her.
This past Friday, almost 8 years later, I received an email from the same woman, asking If I wanted to do the paternity test. Well, I was just shocked and needed more answers, so I came here to this forum. I have a new life now, married, no kids, good job.
Do I legally have to do this test? What about the other man? She told me that he told her that he was sterile so he was not the father.
Any feedback would help me out greatly. Thanks for reading my post. -QR

You shouldn't have to do the paternity test unless you are served papers from the court. If she is trying to get social services/welfare assistance, she has to name a father and they will start the legal proceedings from there. This is what happened to my boyfriend. He had no idea after a one night stand that she got preggo and 2 1/2 years later he was served with paperwork requesting dna test & subsequently was the father & had to pay back child support back to the time the child was born even though he had no idea.

This sounds like it could become a very sticky situation - as it seems odd to contact you after 7 years!

Contacting a legal advisor with expertise in this area will give you the information that you require. It seems a good option to understand all your legal rights before this situation becomes more difficult.

Good luck with everything.
