I was employed by a company for a little over 5 years. During this time, we had
several accounts to come and go. The last account that I was working on was a
banking institution. When the company got this account, they told the workers
that had been with them for a bit, that they would be "Grandfathered"
in on the new account. I had spoke with management, along with HR about
misdemeanors on my background from 2002. I was told that I did not have to worry
about those since I had already been with the company for over 3 years at that
time. Approximately 2 years later, I was terminated for those misdemeanors,
along with several other people with the same thing. I was told at that time
that anyone that had misdemeanors within the last 7 years would be terminated
from their positions. I know for a fact of sevral people that were never let go
that have several misdeanors in their background. Is there anything that I can
do about the unfairness? I
know that in the State of Virginia that you can be fired for anything, but
shouldn't the remainder of these people have been fired for the same thing? Isn't this a type of discrimination?
