Question about filing for form AR-11.
My brother and his wife ( wife is permanent resident since 2000 ) sold their home in may 2008 and moved in with us until they find a new place to live. They still have the same phone number and mailing address, but physical address has changed.
To make a long story short, it did not occur to anyone that there is a need of filing for form AR-11, even though this is just temp. housing until they find a new place.
I was checking out the USCIS website and found the section about the requirements and it's laws. To my brother and sister in laws shock, not filing withing 10 days is a midemeanor, plus the fine etc.
Now, what do they need to do ? Of course she will need to file AR-11, but will she need a laywer, how does that work.
I am not trying to make excuses for the two of them either, since they are responsible for not knowing, and checking on this, but they never lived anywhere else other than the former address and never had to use this service. Is there any help out there ? Is there a form for delayed change of address where you may just have to pay the fine without being charged with a misd. and all the consequenses that will bring along.
