I was renting a space at a mini storage facility, in it I was storing my tool box containing close to $50K worth of tools, I had an $800 mig welder, a $1K plasma cutter, oxy/acy tanks, torch outfit, about 8K worth of parts to restore a car, and assorted personal things. The last two weeks of May, 2008, through the first week of June of 2008 I was moving a few things into the space, when I was approached by an employee who commented on how I should rent another space because I was running out of space.
We talked for a few minutes, and I said I'd come to the office and discuss it with him. I did, and we talked for a few minutes about what was available etc. I asked if he had something close to the space I was renting and for some reason, like he couldn't write the number down, he kept asking me what space I had. I told him, and he rambled off my name, address, and phone number, and I corrected him and said I had moved into a house, and the information was all different.
I wrote down on a piece of paper the new address, and phone number, and also had my access number changed because I had forgotten it a couple times, and had an easier one to remember. This guy typed the info into the computer and then read it all back to me to cerify it with me. He then told me that there was nothing coming up soon that was close to what I was renting, blah blah blah, and after a couple minutes later I was walking out and leaving.
Now, here it is February 1st, 2009, I stopped by the storage to get some tools, and the access code doesn't open the gate. I called and was extremely disturbed to hear that someone else had the space and my stuff was autioned off in July....!!!
I was told nothing about why, and the guy started playing dumb and dumber with me about the whoile thing and doesn't know anything. I asked for the manager, and was told that he isn't coming in until next week, and basically I have nothing to go on.
I've tried calling a few lawyers about this, but I guess I am really to strung out about it and I'm taking it all out on my keyboard right now to settle down a little. I was told by someone before they hung up because of my "attitude" that this would be a civil matter. I don't know exactly where to look amongst all the attorneys in the phone book. I haven't seen too many that say "civil" attorneys. What am I looking for and do I have a case against this storage facility?
I was not called for anything whether it be late payment, no payment, etc, etc, etc. They had my address, phone number and it hasn't changed, and not to mention that I have had the same phone number for the past three years and I have rented for only the past two years.
