My son (21) was at fault in a rear end accident. He was driving under his own insurance, however the car he was driving was registered in both our names. He was only covered by the minimum required by California law and now the other party is requesting $55k in damages exceeding the maximum claim amount of $15000. Am I liable for this amount because I am on the registration in case they do not accept the offer that is presented from his insurance company?
