Bogus drug charge

A friend was arrested for a bogus drug charge, and does not have the money for representation. I believe this charge is so ridiculous the charges would be dropped if the individual had a lawyer. The thing is the detective in charge of the case called and asked if the individual had a lawyer. Why would he call and ask that, and should this person answer?

Your friend is not required to answer any questions without a Lawyer present. If he cannot afford one he can request a Public Defender
