I am a U.S. citizen, attended a foreign medical school that is not accredited by the U.S. department of education, but the school is approved by the World health Organization, and thus approved by the U.S. agency ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign medical graduates), passed all board licnsing exams.

I was offered a job at the CDC and because my school not approved the Dept of education, the offered me the job at alower salary scale, event though jobs at the CDC for a different title accept the ECFMG certificate as the equivalence to a U.S. education. They keep on insisting that they do not care about that ECFMG as equivalency.

DO you have a case to argue? It is my word against theirs!!!.

thank you

Hi. In the state where I work, it is not only legal but also common to set different salaries for LCME-accredited med school graduates vs. others (usually foreign med school grads--incl. US citizens).

By the way, sambbg, I don't think this is about US Dept. of Ed approval--instead, LCME accreditation is a HUGE factor in hiring and salary determination at most hospitals and related agencies.
