Childs right who are under age

A family member was married had two kids. They are now divorced. The kids are 8 and 6 now. The ex husband died and their was now will. What are the rights the chrildren have as to his things, how about his ashes. The kids mother was never asked what the kids would like for just flowers
His mother and father are still alive so are they toget everything.
The parents of the kids had joint custody. Thank you
