I had a chihuahua who was attacked and killed by the neighbor's 2 yr old boxer. My dog was temporarily staying with my sister. My nephew took the chihuahua out to my sister's backyard. The boxer was in the neighbor's backyard. The boxer, who was unleashed, jumped the fence and hedge that separated my sister's backyard from her neighbor's and put the chihuahua in its mouth. The boxer is going to be put down by animal control in 10 days. What kind of settlement should we seek from the neighbors? How much?

You file a suit for damages. The amount would really depend on the surrounding circumstances like the value of chihuahua today, expenses you may have incurred after the death, if any. This could be better discussed with a lawyer so If I were you I would consult one.

In Texas, you would only get the value of the dog (emotional attachment means nothing)

What state are you in?
