My husband was recently removed from his position as coordinator at a manufacturing plant and forced to take a $1.50 pay cut based on a false rumor. He was told during the meeting that they were happy with his performance which he always had been praised on but had heard that he was having an inappropriate relationship with a female subordinate of his and to protect themselves from a sexual harrassment charge he had to step down. He was also warned that any retaliation against the company would be an automatic termination.
This female is a close friend of our family. Since this occurrence the rumor has leaked into the entire plant, causing much embarrassment for my husband, his female coworker and our family. One other employee claims my husband told them they had slept together and made other remarks referring to her. There is no evidence of this except that one person's claim. He is not someone that my husband ever has any personal conversations with.
Does anyone know if we have any legal grounds to stand on to pursue this or if we should just let it go?
