My Uncle passed away in January 2007 and his will went to probate in Feb 2007. I was notified then that he bequest me a certain amount of money along with 6 other relatives. He has a good sized estate including a business. I was told by relatives that someone brought a lawsuit against the estate but that was recently settled. I have never seen an entire copy of the will, just the part with his bequests. Also, for some reason my relatives keep telling me to never expect to receive anything. I don't know why they say that. What I want to know is, 1. does the executor need to keep my informed as to the status of things, 2. Does a will have to be settled or closed, and 3. How long is too long - is there a time frame for settling this?
