Hi I am a 37 year old Janitor from Ontario Canada with 13 years experience, I have been with the cleaning company I am with now for 5 years, my boss just found out I am starting my own cleaning company and he wants me to sign a contract stating that I will not go after any of his jobs for the next 5 years, if I refuse to sign he says he will have to terminate my employment with him.
What should I do?.

I figured this one out on my own, this web site was useless in helping me, if any one else has this issue go to Service Canada, No small business has the right to put limitations or juristiction on another small business, if the employer wishes to dismiss you he owes you one weeks pay for every year that you have worked for them.
DO NOT SIGN ANY SUCH CONTRACT EVER

I would not sign the contract, you will most likely end up doing some of his clients if you live in the same town. Could you not go into business with him? Either way you have to do what is best for yourself.
