I have a 14 yr old with downs syndrome.she is an 8th grader here in Texas. The middle school was across the street from us so getting her to school was no problem they have moved the middle school to the old high school which is 15 blocks from me.I was informed that she does not qualify for School transportation (bus) because we do not llive 2 miles away from the school. yet there is another child in school with downs who lives 5 blocks who qualifies. The special ed coordinator says it is texas law. my husband works and needs our only car for work. So basically I have to walk her back and forth ..what happens when it gets cold? do they expect me to take her out in the cold to walk that far? she gets sick so easy. does anyone know how i can get a copy of this state law. I was informed by a special ed teacher from a different city that this sounded like discrimanation.. she has been a special ed teacher for over 40 years and has never seen this come up
