i have worked for this company for over 8 years on and off....last month i had a little problem and i was incarcerated for 30 hours.....here is a timeline of that period...FRI-I was not feeling well and i sent word with my brother that i was not coming in(which in the past was totally acceptable)...sooo on Sunday morning I was incarcerated...my mother notified my supervisor..IN CHURCH..that I was not going to be at work on monday.....so on MON morning I went for a bond hearing, they set my bond...I went straight from the court room and called my supervisor....COLLECT.....from the jail and told him I would be coming back to work tomorrow..on TUE...he said "okay, if your momma needs any money tell her to let me know"...SO, within that hour I was out of jail.....later that night I got a call from my momma and she said my supervisor had sent word with my brother saying that I was fired and not to come back...i called the owner of the company to set up a meeting, i went in that THURS for this meeting....This is when my supervisor handed me my termination papers...which stated that i had laid out of work for 2 consecutive days without notification which results in termination....can this company get away with this..????Every time this company gets slow they do this to me.....mind you they have got rid of 50% of the company since the time they got rid of me...AND I was due a quarterly work performance BONUS and they kept it for some reason they pulled out of the thick air....I have recieved ALL of my bonuses and never once have i met the criteria that they are stating I did not meet this time either...this is a small family owned business full of people who forgot where they came from, and they think they can walk all over people...ANYONE who has advice for me is really appreciated!! We are in NC so we are an "at will" state, but can they lie on the termination papers, keep my bonus, and deny me unemployment....OH yeah, now it is going to take 6-8 weeks for my unemployment because i was "FIRED"......PLEASE my family and I are struggling
