On Friday I was driving to work in Illinois, and the roads were not plowed very well at all in the morning. The speed limit was 45 MPH and I was going around 30 MPH. I was driving in the right lane on the tire tracks that were already created on the road in the snow when I hit a large clump of snow/slush that got stock in my wheel well. I lost control of the car and spun out over into the left lane, which had traffic going into the same direction I was going in, and another car skidded to a stop and struck my car. Another car hit her car from behind, and drove away. The remaining driver and I pulled over, called the police to file a report and waited for the cop to arrive. When the cop wrote the report and things like that, he issued me a ticket for "improper lane usage." Do I have any valid defenses given the circumstances? I was not going faster than any other cars around me and I lost control of my vehicle. If anyone knows of any documentation that validates my defense I would be grateful. Or if I'm wrong and just have to pay the ticket I would like to know that too. Even the insurance company thought that the ticket was a little weird.
