I received a Final Notice for Demand of Payment form the Franchise Tax Board of California. It gives me about 10 days to pay the balance due. I am surprised because I moved out of CA in Dec of 2005. The Notice is for the Tax Year 2006. Besides, even though it says Final Notice, I have not received any earlier notices from them. And, the timing is also such that does not give me much time to respond. I would like to know what steps to take. I would also like to know, what is the statute of limitations for the CA Tax Board to collect Taxes - seems like they are trying all methods (or rather tricks) to pull in all monies possible to help solve their budget woes. I would also like to know, how I can request my file (of information) form them. For them to say I owe taxes (even though I was not living in the state) implies that they probably received some copy of W2/1099 etc that shows I earned income. I want to make sure there is no fraud/identity theft here ... some company/employer/entity falsely showing me as an employee/contractor. Also, would be curious to know if there are many others like me who are receiving such false claims/notices. Please advise. Thank you.

Why pay them the money before its do? No way.
I usually pay it off 1-2 days before the final payment is due.
Try and remember to call them at least 1x every two weeks to see if there is a price drop. On my last cruise, I received a price drop and then upgraded to a balcony. I received 38 off the original price.
