Description: Father 48 yr old in Georgia has 20 yr old son in Washington state. The father divorced his son's mother 15 years ago, and the son lived with the mother until he recently moved in with his grandmother, who is also in Washington state. The son is suing the the father for the money needed to attend college/university in Washington state.
Background: When the son was still living with the mother, she sued the father for the money needed for the son to go to trade school. The father hired a lawyer for $6,000 to fight the case (and the father is still trying to pay off the fee), but in the middle of the trial, the mother dropped the case. The mother ended up paying the entry fee for the trade school, but the son dropped out after a short time.
Question: Is the father obligated under Washington state law to pay for a college/university education for a 20 yr old son from a previous marriage?
