My husband and I have a double wide mobile home on his grandmother's property that has been there for 9 years. She recently passed away without having deeded that land to us and now we find out she had refinanced her mobile home land and included the land with it. She had no life insurance and no credit life to pay the loan off. I'm wondering do we have any rights to the parcel of land we are on since we've had our homeplace there for 9 years? Or can we be forced to up and move?

I am no legal expert but I think there are squatters rights. If someone lives on a piece of land for over 10 years they could claim squatters rights but as far as I am aware, they have to clear it with the land owner. I am not sure what you would do in this situation so I think it would be in your best interest to get a legal advisor to find out exactly what rights you have.

Good luck!

emanthmag (http://www.legalserviceonline.com/forum/member.php?u=35278) - did you ever get this issue resolved? Since my last post I have had a friend who has been in a similar situation, after getting legal advice they have now been awarded formal squatters rights. Just shows it's not just a lost cause.

There are a multitude of things you can possibily do. First off, can you afford to buy the place from the note holder? They might be your first step.
Second of course, is to get an appointment with a Real Estate attorney. It won't cost much for a first visit and he will have the answers you need for the state you live in.

Good Luck!
