I filed for bankruptcy in 2000 and they considered my class action law suit against the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill an asset. So they finally have been paying on the judgment. All the money went to the bankruptcy trustee, but the lawyers for the Exxon Judgment still sent me a 1099 with the amount on it. I just got a letter from the trustee's attorney that says Exxon should not have sent me a 1099. He says that he is going to notify Exxon to send me a revised 1099 that does not show any income. Does this mean that I do not owe taxes on this money? I have to wait for the revised form and it will be past April 15th by then.
