I live in Summit county Ohio (Cuyahoga Falls). I have the standard plan "A" structure with my 6 year old daughter. I am Male. I will make around 42,000 dollars this year. I am paying 500 a month in support. I am not in arears. I have my daughter not per plan but tuesdays every other thursday and every other weekend, and on the thursdays that i don't get her over night I pick her up and we go out for a bite to eat and hang out. My ex-wife (daughters mother) makes about the same as I. I have only one child. We were divorced in August 2004. My question is why am I paying so much? I have a friend that makes the same as I do and he pays 325.00 a month for one child. I know a person with 2 kids who is in the same income bracket that pays 650 for two kids, and one of my best friends has three and he pays 710.00 a month again same income bracket. Why the discrepency? I am looking for a place to start, I provide health insurance for my daughter and I am only allowed to claim her every other year on my taxes. The last thing I want is more disruption to my daughters life but I want what is fair. My ex and I have a very strained relationship that 99% of the time goes undetected by my daughter. My best friend is a law student at Case and he feels like I need to talk to an attorney based on the fact that our divorce and custody arrangements were handled by a friend of her family and was not representing me. Again I was trying to do the right thing for my daughter. I also end up spending money on clothes for my daughter in addition to everything else I am doing. I guess before I spend 2-3 hundred dollars on a consultation fee I was wondering If there is any basis to the fact that I am feeling screwed. I just want what is fair and right for my daughter, she has been through enough.
