I recently left my car with a auto repair shop while I was out of town. They replaced the starter, which they did a good job of replacing. When I picked the car up 3 weeks later (after returning from my Business trip) I found that they 1) checked the radiator fluids and forgot to replace the radiator cap and 2) a rat took up residence in my Air Conditioning system.

The fix the issue of not replacing the radiator cap but have yet to do anything about the rat in the AC system. I do not know if the rat is still in the system alive or dead but I do know that the car now smells terrible. Are they responsible to check the duct system, clean the system to eliminate any nesting material, and eliminate the horrid smell as well as the rat carcas if still in the system? Also are they responsible for any damage done to the duct work?

Advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Darren Unger

Best to refer your case to a lawyer.
There may be some liability that exist in the case.
They are responsible to check the duct system, clean the system to eliminate any nesting material...

The individual before is correct. If the repair shop is not going to work with you to solve the problem, then you need to get others involved.

When you take that step, make sure to document every call and our action. Keep a journal in regards to the time and effort you put towards correcting the situation.

Next, see if the company is a member of the bbb or local chamber. If so, log a complaint.

Second, contact the city/state and report them. All companies require a license and you can submit a complaint to the city or state.

Third, go online and see if they have any presence on online. If they do see if you can submit reviews etc about the company. Let them know what you are doing so that they know you are not going to stop until the issue with the car is settled.

If they know you are committed to getting this fixed and won't stop, they will take the time to get it fixed because in the long run, it is bad for their business.
