In the property division section of my divorce settlement my ex-wife and I were each given ownership of one of our two vehicles - both of which had been under both of our names (both names on titles which had also been clear of any liens). I had not yet gone to the DMV for a new title under just my name when I found out that she had taken a loan out on the vehicle now belonging to me and the title now has just her name on it and shows that new lien. Since that was not legally her property, can I get that lien challenged somehow and removed from the title so I can have it transferred clean to my name ? I know that I can take her to court for contempt, but I would rather not do that. She has no way currently to pay off the debt in order to remove this lien.
