Most likely they do have some legal recourse in getting their equipment back. But is your case going to be cost effective or was the man at the door just a scare tactic. If they take you to court they will incur legal fees which of course they will add to your bill but would probably have to pay out of their pocket while in the process of suing you. You will not go to jail and they will not take any of your other belongings. They can however garnish you and your husband's paychecks if you live in a garnishable state. If you don't then they might be awarded a judgement for the cost of computer plus legal fees and court fees which would stay on your credit report for 7-10 years whether or not you paid it.
