I legally obtained a list of products by a certain company. Itcontains dealer prices and in stock items.
Can the company whose list I have legally obtained, do anything to me? take me to court? They have already called me and asked me not to distribute the list and they asked me where I obtained it from - I did not tell them what dealer/retailer sent it to me. Also, the list has a little value to myself, and, I would like to offer it up for sale back to the company; I realize it would do a company great financial stress to have this list published and I would not do so; nonetheless, I am sure they would love to have it back in their posession. Am I legally allowed to posess this list; I bought it from a dealer associated with the company, not knowing that I would actually get 'the list' -- as I have seen 'dealers' cost' and similar phrases used in advertising.
A) Is it legal for me to have obtained this list?
B) Is it legal for me to try and sell it back to the company?
Obviously, I am not out to hurt any company, and, will not do so. But, if I can recoup my losses, is it fair to do so? Is it legal? I am trying hard to steer clear of blackmail as I would never do that -- that's why the list has not left my posession, and will not, ever. If I ever get into business, I wouldn't want someone distributing any dealers' price lists of mine, so, I'm not going to do it - but, it would be nice to get my monies back...
