Some time ago I went through a bad stretch financially and got behind on my child support payments. The State of Alabama charged interest on the child support in arrears and continues to charge interest on the remaining balance. I have been paying now for the last 3 or 4 years (current obligation and back child support) and have decreased the back support by around $4,000. The child support in arrears is now around $5,300, but the interest is over $13,000. The interest continues to accrue and none of what I pay reduces the interest. I will never get this paid off at this rate. Its worse than a credit card. Is there anything I can do about the interest?
