I let a relative move in until he was able to find another place to live.
He said it would be just for a few weeks. It has now been just under a year
and he is still here. I asked him to leave several times, he says no, and
told me that the law is on his side.
He never paid rent or help with the bills and did not sign any rent/lease
contract. He does not live in the house any more, moved out about
4 months ago, but he still has his tools and other things in the garage.
His mail still comes here.
I was told by the police (Long Beach, CA) that after 30 days he had a legal
right to stay here. That to get him and his property out of here I would
have to go through the eviction process.
Is this true?
I do not own this property, it is owned by my mother. I care for the
property and pay her a small rental fee.
