In short, is a traffic ticket (signed by both officer and the accused) considered a legally binding agreement?
Basically I was given a ticket in May and the court date written on the ticket was for July 21. This turned out to be a mistake, the court date was supposed to be June 21. Because I didn't show up on 6/21, the court ruled and is going to suspend my license. They're suspending it for failure to appear in court; not for the ticket itself. Doesn't the court have to uphold the agreement? Even if it was a mistake? They're saying I can pay extra, above and beyond the fine, to "possibly" keep my license.
If it's needed, the above is taking place in Rhode Island.
Thanks for any help...I really need it!
