What rights do they have?

I have two friends that have been living in Arizona. They have been living with a guy that also employs them. Well the business is going under and they have not been paid for months. He owes them each over $5000. They are moving back to Washington and are going to go get there things from his house. What legal rights do they have if he tries to keep them from taking their things?
