I had an electrical issue this past weekend. I am a renting an aparment in California. On the weekend, the electricity blew in my apartment causing all my appliances to burn up. I lost 3 tvs, radio, computer, and other items. It was determined already that it was the owners fault and not the local electrical company. There were some old pieces in the main breaker box. It was fixed and now I have compiled a list of the items I lost. The next day, I inventoried all the items and went to 3 separate stores to price them to determine what it would cost for me to replace. I sent the list off to be reviewed. This was done at their request. The property manager said there shouldnt be a problem with getting a check to me in the next day or so as long as it was reasonable. Today I hear that it will not be resolved this week, and they have to review the list and prices again. They also asked for the dates that I bought these items, which I provided and told them it was best guess. My question is, what are my rights with this situation?
How long can they take to decide?...Can they estimate depreciation value?...and What about services I am not using (ie, phone, internet, etc), that I can not use while this is happening?.. Any help will be much appreciated.
