My grandmother passed away in August 2006 and the local EMS Service is pressuring me to pay a $400+ bill which has been submitted to Medicare for payment. Medicare has paid for past EMS bills, however Medicare seems to be backed up in paying bills because I am still receiving payment notices Medicare sent to doctors from August 2006. I called the EMS Service and told them that Medicare will pay them but they send me threatening notices even though my conversations with them seem to be congenial and they agree to continue to wait.
Should I go ahead and pay them eventhough it would be somewhat of a hardship. My suspicion is that I pay them and then Medicare pays them and the EMS Service would never inform me.
What do you suggest please?
